How To Solve The Economic Crisis

This was an article from the St. Petersburg Times Newspaper on Sunday.
The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the Economy?" I thought this was the BEST idea....I think this guy nailed it!

Dear Mr. President,

Solution: Patriotic retirement

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force - Pay them $1 million apiece severance with the following stipulations:
1. They retire immediately. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.
2. They buy NEW American cars. Forty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.
3. They either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members in Congress and their constituents pay their taxes...

Help Set A World Record

EDIT: The record attempt is being postponed until April 14th (I think)

Back in January, Gizmodo ran an article telling of three impressive cases of rather active texting months for a few individuals. The first was a 13 year old girl sending 14,000 text messages in one month, a nice sum, but very easily doable (I've approached numbers this high on a couple occasions). The second, and even more impressive, was of a Florida girl who sent/received 35,463 texts in the same time. Not satisfied with just an astonished look and a, "wow, that's a lot" from readers, Gizmodo so kindly informed us of the world record. "A GROWN man by the name of Deepak Sharma...managed to send 182,689 messages in a single month—about 6100 messages a day (or 4.2 messages a minute)" (Gizmodo). There is only one person I know who I think would be physically and mentally capable of sending/receiving that many text messages without going completely insane. Frederick Lindgren, one of my best friends, co-DJ and business partner, and I have decided to take on the task of beating this record. Phone in hand 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, Frederick, aka Freddy or DJ XT3NT, will try to break this record. No, not break it, OBLITERATE. Our goal? 500,000. Yes, thats a 5, with five zeroes. We need your help though. Do your part in helping set a new Guiness World Record. Whenever you can, send him a tweet on Twitter or text his phone. Do this ALL THE TIME. The more you send, the better chance we have of reaching the goal. Don't be afraid if you don't know him. He's happy to talk to you (if he gets a chance to reply that is lol). So where can you contact him, you ask? Well look no further. Just below I have given links and contact information for you to help out.

1. Follow him on Twitter and send messages as often as you can to @djXT3NT. If you have any questions you can send them to me on Twitter, @djR3Z, or just follow me for the heck of it. I'm always looking for new people to talk to.

2. Send him a text message. If you're international, this is a US number. 1-210-279-1374. Text him any time, day or night, with anything you want. Feel free to send a link or your Twitter name. No guarantees, but he might follow you. :) If you don't want to send it from your phone, you can send them online here and he'll get them that way. Send as many as you can!

3. Every time you see the #worldrecord hashtag from me or him, retweet it! The more people see it, the more texts he will get! Heck, search the #worldrecord hashtag in your free time and retweet the posts with the link!!!

4. We may be adding more ways to get texts to him, including sending them through AIM, so be sure to check back each day in case we've added another link.

5. Just spread the world wherever you can. Link to this post wherever you can, retweet, and tell all your friends. You can help set beat a Guiness World Record!!!

We really appreciate your help in making this happen. We wouldn't be able to do this without you, so get out there and start texting, tweeting, and whatever else you can do to break this world record!!!

OH: Rants of a Government Student

So someone sent out an email after class today. I couldn't stop laughing. Thought I would share. Enjoy :)

First, I'm really sorry to send a mass email out - I get sick of these, but I want to address these kids in class who talk to each other the whole class period. Please stop.

Now I'm sorry I lost it today and told a couple of you to "shut the f*ck up", but seriously, some of us worked our asses off to get our shot to go to school, either through several years of military service, athletic programs, scholastic endeavors or just working jobs.

People like me don't give a flying shit about what you and your little "bff" did last night, how many Jaagerbombs you did with Johnny on friday, what pink outfit is cute on old navy's shopping page, or any other post teeny-bopper issue consuming your life.

There are 250 students in that class, and I know that I have a hard enough time following along without having to listen to a bunch of children dribbling about nothing. I can't imagine anything more inconsiderate than that.

If you want to start paying for my tuition, then you can have some of my time, othewise, please try to make an effort to sit down and shut your little mouths and let people listen to the guy we all paid a lot of money to hear.

Best regards,
(Name removed)

Powiull Sleep Experimentation

1:29 pm Tuesday

Nicholas told me that my 3 hours wasn’t that harmful to my adaptation. The fact that I woke up is a good sign and shows that my body is getting closer to adapting, that it’s not held down by monophasic patterns as much anymore. I’m going to be going as long as I can today before I take a nap. This would have been my last opportunity for a nap before 2 am tonight, as I’m between classes. If I’m tired, I may be able to squeeze one in around 9:30 or so. We’ll see. I have a ton of intramural games tonight so I don’t think I’ll be to needy of a nap until I’m all done.

2:11 pm Wednesday

I didn’t update at all since about this time yesterday, but here’s what went down. I slowly started feeling worse and worse throughout the afternoon. Not tired, just sick and miserable. The intramural games changed that and when I got back around 12:30, I was feeling great. Just chatted online and watched some TV shows throughout the night until about 6:30. I had been dozing off slightly during the shows and decided it was time for a nap. Took it and felt horrible waking up, but got up nonetheless. Went to breakfast and then to class, where I proceeded to doze off some more. I was so dead tired that I took another nap at 9:15 after the class, went to my next class where I dozed off some more, and came back. I took another nap at 12:00, of which my suitemate said he would wake me up, and didn’t. So I slept 2 hours. Doing better I guess right? At least it wasn’t 3 or even more. I’m going to take naps a bit more often now to try and get my body used to naps and force it to get some really deep sleep during them. Then I can start stretching the times. Hopefully that goes as planned.

2:02 am Thursday

I don’t know what it is with me posting every 12 hours, but here it is. It took me a while to feel good after the extended nap in the afternoon, but I did eventually. I was still tired and dozed off a little here and there, but just for minutes at a time. Then once I ate dinner I was feeling good, especially after my late night workout. I’m starting to get a little tired now though, so I’m going to watch The Office until I can’t keep my eyes open and then take a nap.

4:00 am

I’m not dead tired, but I think I’m going to take a nap within the next hour. I think it would be beneficial, as it would give my body a chance to try and get restful sleep as well as avoid falling asleep later today. The next time I would be able to take a nap is at 1 and I’m not sure I could make it that far without dozing off in class. If I take this nap, I’m fairly confident I can make it until tonight (probably around midnight or so) before taking another nap. We shall see.

6:26 am

So much for taking a nap. I just never got tired. I got tired very quickly without even being aware of it while watching The Office about 30 minutes ago and dozed off for 4 and a half minutes, but that is quite alright. I’m not very tired now either but I will definitely need to take a nap by 8:00 am or I’m going to have trouble staying awake during my morning classes.

12:52 pm

Great!!! So I ended up taking that nap around 7:45, but apparently I went back to sleep after I woke up and just woke up, 4.5 hours later. I thought last night was my best night also. I was feeling great and I thought I was going to get through today perfectly. I guess that wasn’t the case. I’m not giving up though, oh no. I’ve got this whole weekend to buckle down even more. I will prevail.

2:18 am Friday

Apparently I slept 2 hours off and on tonight without noticing. Do to the fact that my body wants to sleep extended periods of time and isn’t getting deep sleep during naps, I’m going to be doing Dymaxion (a nap every 6 hours) to relearn the ability. I will do that through the weekend and adapt to it. I will then be able to extend awake times. Stay tuned.

Powiull Sleep - Day 1

So I thought I’d better start updating regularly on how this is going. First, let me lay down what exactly I’m doing on my path to adapt to Powiull sleep, which involves sleeping 15-30 minutes every 12 hours.

I tried one method over the weekend in which I went as long as I could without sleeping to better coax my body into an intense, REM nap when the time came, but I pushed my luck and didn’t go to sleep when I should have, resulting in me falling asleep and sleeping for 5 hours. I attempted again and received the same result. I am now trying an alternate method that I have tweaked to better suit what I think will lead to my success.

This method involves adapting to polyphasic sleep and then either gradually extending the awake periods as long as you can until you reach 12 hours, or by going as long as you can without sleeping as I attempted this weekend (without fully adapting to polyphasic sleep). What I am doing, starting yesterday morning when I woke up from my slumber, combines both of these methods. I am going as long as I can without sleeping, but not pushing it. If I get tired, I take a nap, resulting in multiple naps in a day. I think it will be both quicker and less painful to adapt under this method.

I have realized however that I’m not taking multiple naps, partly due to a short oversleep last night. I went all day yesterday before my first nap at 10:15 pm, a good 11 hours. I then went 7 and a half hours until the next one at 6:30 which I overslept on until 8:30 due to idiocy of turning off my alarm. It is now 5:30 and I have been up for 9 hours. I had the desire to take a nap around 1, but after occupying myself with something else, I woke back up and went to the gym. I may or may not take a nap until this evening. I feel slightly sick, but I think it is more due to the fact that I haven’t eaten since 11:30, so we’ll see how that helps. I’m not that hungry though and I feel I may end up losing appetite just as Nicholas of Conscious Flex did. I need the nutrients for working out though, so I’m going to try to eat as much as I can.

I have changed my method of naps also. Instead of sleeping lying down, I am sleeping sitting up on my bed to prevent my body from shutting down. Hopefully this will help me adapt to the daydreaming of Powiull sleep and wake up easier, though it didn’t seem to help last night. :/
I will be updating after each nap and whenever I feel the need to say something important or just observational. I will keep these all in one post and submit it in the middle of the night for you enjoyment in the morning.

7:11 pm

Eating definitely helped. It got rid of my stomach ache, but I’m still feeling the effects of adaptation. I just stood up, and got really dizzy, and for a minute had the feeling that I was going to pass out. Pretty much exactly how I feel when I give blood. I have noticed today and last night that my typing is slower, more so than I’ve noticed any other time over the course of trying to adapt.

10:00 pm

Decided to take a nap, as it was getting hard for me to read and I really need to study. Took it at 9:15 for 25 minutes and it worked like a charm. Fell asleep REALLY quickly, even sitting up, so I’m definitely happy about that. Feeling refreshed, but I don’t know how long it’s going to last. The night is long :/

7:28 am

Just woke up…from sleeping. I don’t know how, but I was in my bed. Apparently I fell asleep. I took a nap at 4:00am but I woke up and go on the computer. How I ended up falling asleep, I don’t know. :( Starting Over.
